Our crematorium and memorial grounds
Set within five acres of landscaped grounds between Shepton Mallet and Wells, Mendip Crematorium is a trusted choice for funeral services, cremations, and lasting memorials. In our thoughtfully designed gardens we focus on native planting and sustainable memorial spaces to reduce our ecological footprint and preserve our grounds for future generations.
A chapel for all faiths and beliefs
Designed to provide a peaceful setting for funeral services, our chapel at Mendip Crematorium provides comfortable seating for up to 94 guests. We have ample parking, full wheelchair access, and we welcome well-behaved dogs on leads. The chapel is equipped with facilities to help personalise the service, including screens to display photos, and a state-of-the-art music system to play pre-recorded music of your choice. We also have speakers in the waiting room and outside for larger attended services, plus space for singers and musicians too.

If you need support to arrange a cremation in Wells, or nearby areas such as Street, Shepton Mallet or Glastonbury, we work with local funeral directors, faith leaders and celebrants across Somerset. Mendip Crematorium is equipped with a music system, organ, screens for visual tributes and webcasting for those joining remotely. Cremation services at Mendip Crematorium
We offer attended and unattended cremation services at Mendip Crematorium
An attended cremation
Where family and friends come together for a funeral or memorial service in our chapel. You can personalise the service with music, readings and tributes. Loved ones will be able to spend up to 45 minutes in the chapel, with a few moments spent with the coffin before leaving.
An attended direct cremation
This option enables families to attend the crematorium to see the coffin in the chapel. Although there is no funeral or memorial service, you can choose the music that is playing and will be able to spend a few moments with the coffin.
An unattended, direct cremation
A direct cremation means there is no funeral or memorial service in the chapel, and no mourners in attendance.

Our fees
All cremation fees at Mendip Crematorium include:
• The use of our chapel
• A single tribute photo displayed on screen throughout the service (not available for attended direct cremations)
• The use of our state-of-the-art media system to play music of your choice
• All services relating to the administration and registration of the cremation, in line with statutory regulation
• Certificate of cremation
• Provision of a container for the ashes
• The option to witness the scattering of the ashes within our Gardens of Remembrance, or preparation of the ashes for collection
