Since opening in 1958, Emstrey Crematorium & Cemetery has provided a welcoming space for personal and meaningful funerals. Our Gardens of Remembrance were designed in the late 1950s by Percy Thrower, the beloved British gardener and horticulturist. Set within 29 acres and filled with established rose beds and mature trees, they offer a peaceful place for reflection throughout the year.
Our spacious chapel features wonderful architecture that brings warmth and character to every service at Emstrey Crematorium & Cemetery. It seats 102 guests over two levels, with room for an additional 40 to stand. For larger funeral services, we can accommodate further guests in our covered outdoor areas, which are equipped with speakers. A modern sound system is available to play music of your choice, or we have space for singers and musicians.

If you need support to arrange a cremation in Shrewsbury, or nearby areas such as Telford, Oswestry or Ludlow, we work with local funeral directors, faith leaders and celebrants across Shropshire. Emstrey Crematorium accommodates up to 133 car park spaces. The chapel is equipped with a music system, screens for visual tributes and webcasting for those joining remotely. A waiting room with refreshments and accessible facilities are also available, with coach parking on site. If you'd like to tour the crematorium and memorial grounds, please call us to arrange an appointment.

We offer different ways to create a lasting tribute within our memorial grounds.
Our memorial specialists are here to help you find something that truly reflects your loved one, from a memorial garden to a plaque or dedication in our Book of Remembrance.

Cremation services at Emstrey Crematorium & Cemetery
We offer attended and unattended cremation services at Emstrey Crematorium & Cemetery
An attended cremation
Where family and friends come together for a funeral or memorial service in our chapel. You can personalise the service with music, readings and tributes. Loved ones will be able to spend a few moments with the coffin before leaving the chapel.
An attended direct cremation
This option enables families to attend the crematorium to see the coffin in the chapel. Although there is no funeral or memorial service, you can choose the music that is playing and will be able to spend a few moments with the coffin.
An unattended, direct cremation
A direct cremation means there is no funeral or memorial service in the chapel, and no mourners in attendance.
For more information about personalising a service, speak to your funeral director, or contact us.
All cremation fees at Emstrey Crematorium & Cemetery include:
• The use of our chapel
• A single tribute photo displayed on screen throughout the service (not available for attended direct cremations)
• The use of our state-of-the-art media system to play music of your choice
• All services relating to the administration and registration of the cremation, in line with statutory regulation
• Certificate of cremation
• Provision of a container for the ashes
• The option to witness the scattering of the ashes within our Gardens of Remembrance, or preparation of the ashes for collection

Lovely little crematorium. Lots of parking and a friendly feel

Frankly I am appalled. I have a number of relatives whose ashes have been scattered here beneath memorial roses over the last 50 years. The information provided about their whereabouts has been disgraceful. Staff have been rude, insensitive in the extreme and generally disinterested in helping us to locate them, information which should be at their fingertips.
The garden of remembrance is poorly organised and poorly maintained.
It IS a peaceful place and one understands that it has to be at very least cost neutral but, if you go into the business of curating mortal remains, in whatever form, compassion and respect need to be paramount. Unfortunately neither of these qualities are in any way evident.
If I could dig my grandparents, aunts and uncles up and move them I most certainly would.
