Our cemetery and memorial grounds
Established in 1857, East Herringthorpe Cemetery which is on the same site as Rotherham Crematorium, has a served the local community for generations. Rooted in Rotherham’s heritage, the cemetery remains a significant part of the town. While many cemeteries across the country have limited grave space available, we offer a range of burial and memorial options within our grounds, including the Sundown Natural Burial area. This is a dedicated woodland space created for families seeking a peaceful, natural and environmentally considerate alternative to traditional burial or cremation memorials.

Traditional graves allow for a full kerb set (a headstone with a stone surround ) alongside personalised memorial designs. A classic and enduring choice that can be tailored to reflect the individuality of your loved one.
Sundown natural burial area
Set within mature woodland, offering an unspoilt resting place among wildflowers, trees and thriving wildlife. The landscape is preserved for future generations, providing a peaceful setting for reflection and remembrance.
Memorials at East Herringthorpe Cemetery
A memorial is a lasting place to pause, reflect and remember, and it should feel as unique as the person it honours. Our memorial specialists will talk you through the options, from traditional headstones and kerb sets to fully bespoke tributes, so that you can find something that feels right.
Memorials can also be pre-purchased, giving you peace of mind that your wishes will be met, while taking the emotional and financial pressure off your loved ones.
A chapel for all faiths and beliefs
Our elegant chapel provides a peaceful setting for every funeral and memorial service. Natural light streams through large arched windows, while a balcony overlooks the space below. This comfortably seats up to 145 guests across two levels. The chapel is equipped with an organ, and modern facilities to personalise the service. There are screens to display visual tributes, and a music system to play pre-recorded music of your choice. We have space for singers and musicians too.
